Nothing But Air

I looked at the sky,

it was nothing but air.

I looked in my heart,

but the cupboard was bare.

I looked to my friends

and my sorrows all drowned.

I looked to my foes,

they’ll soon come around.

I looked for the answer

but failed the math.

I looked for truth

but chose the wrong path.

I looked for succour,

while I counted the hours.

I looked for some confidence,

with potions and powders.

I looked to the poets’

but they had no rhyme.

I looked up the ladder,

At the rungs yet to climb.

I looked at my watch,

And time stood still.

I looked at the bar,

And drank my fill.

I looked at the night,

for the pleasures therein.

I awoke in the morning

As guilty as sin.

I looked for my soul

But is was a cab ride away,

I looked at my conscience

but it was here to stay.

I looked and looked

till my eyes were sore.

I looked and looked

But I understood no more.

So I looked at death

And cried “come back later”.

I looked for love,

cause I’m no hater.

I looked for God

And cried “are you there?”

I looked to the Heavens

And found nothing but air.
