Drowsing Helplessly

Drowsing helplessly,

trying to stay awake.

Drifting harmlessly,

for drifting’s sake.

Yet even in this altered state,

with no control over the roads to take.

As consciousness fades from view

my thoughts dissolve perfectly,

into a single image of you.

Asleep in my arms, warmly embraced.

Til, suddenly I awake,

It’s all been dream,

You’re not here,

And my heart breaks.
